North Gate House was purchased in 2014 by Corey and Paul as their Dales retreat when they still lived in Leeds. It was this beautiful and historic cottage which captured their desire to up-sticks from the big city and permanently move north to Wensleydale and start the Manor House Cottages business. The cottage is currently used by the family and will be available for Guests to enjoy from the of autumn 2018.
The cottage was built in 1720 using stone from the original North Gate to Middleham Castle and was recently renovated to create the epitome of luxury living. The Façade of this beautifully appointed property belies the extensive accommodation inside and the equally impressive gardens.
North Gate House is a unique property in the racing town of Middleham and has been renovated from top to bottom to an exceptional standard with an enviable attention to detail throughout.
Whilst there are modern and contemporary finishes in the bathrooms and Kitchen, the renovation works have been sympathetically carried out and there is an abundance of period and traditional features throughout including exposed beams and trusses and an impressive inglenook fireplace with exposed stonework and flagged hearth.
The gardens have also been thoughtfully landscaped to create a wonderful space perfect of entertaining with two dining table areas, large garden sofas and a cosy summerhouse.
The front entrance porch opens into the beautiful Drawing Room which has a most imposing inglenook fireplace at it’s heart housing a multi-fuel stove, two south-facing windows with period window seats beneath and timber flooring throughout. The intimate Dining Room, which leads off from the Drawing Room, has a beautiful French dining room suite and is perfect for those who enjoy long evenings with wonderful food.
Steps from the Drawing Room lead down to the modern fitted Kitchen/Breakfast Room which has two windows affording wonderful views over the gardens and across the dale beyond. With fitted wall and floor mounted units, incorporating a traditional Butler’s sink and solid hard-wood work tops, there are brick-style tiled splash backs and down lights to ceiling. Integral appliances include; electric range cooker with extractor fan above, fridge, freezer, dishwasher and wine cooler.

The sumptuous Master Suite has a vaulted ceiling, which reveals the beautiful A frame beams and roof trusses, a range of built in wardrobes and far-reaching views to the rear. However, the real focal point of the room is the contemporary free-standing bath set atop a platform to one corner and which has a heated towel rail close to hand to one wall. The en-suite has a walk in shower with monsoon shower head, wash hand basin set in a vanity unit, WC and heated towel rail.
